Liz Holborn

Head of Scotch Outlook for Growth, Diageo

Joining the Diageo graduate trainee scheme in 2009 meant that Liz was exposed to all aspects of the business, from sales and customer marketing to commercial planning and global pricing.

Her role at Diageo now is a unique one. Responsible for bridging the supply and demand for Scotch Whisky not only in the present climate, but looking to the future too. This means carefully balancing opportunities for growth now, against stock across a wide portfolio, covering Johnnie Walker, Buchanan’s, Singleton, Lagavu lin, Talisker and many others.

“I think I have the best job in the world,” says Liz. “The people that came before us wanted to ensure that Scotch Whisky had a future, and I am helping to do that today. I feel incredibly privileged to be working with iconic, world-leading brands and making sure that they are safe in this ever-changing world order.

Liz became passionate about after a tasting session with Master of the Quaich Jim Beveridge. “Johnnie Walker Black Label is my go-to blend,” she says. “I remember someone saying that malts were like soloists and blends were the orchestra. I prefer the orchestra – especially when you are able to pick out the different components within the blend.

“I feel so honoured to be made a Keeper for the work I do, and I am particularly proud to be flying the flag for the many women in the industry.”
